Four weeks ago I took part in the CSET Summer Law School. It was an immense privilege. Chosen out of one thousand applicants, I was given a unique insight into the legal profession and given an opportunity that I am profoundly grateful for. The post-mortem of the Copenhagen climate negotiations proved to be an interesting analysis. One of the most interesting articles contained in the Guardian concerned China, and whether they were striving to meet the requirements demanded by the science or simply being a global inconvenience and repeatedly blocking the negotiations. So on which side should the penny finally drop?

Today, I was fortunate to witness the effects of climate change in person, as well as hearing from some amazing young people who are taking action to do something about it.

Over the past year, the UK Youth Climate Coalition has achieved something great. We have established ourselves as the leading youth organisation on climate change and in the process we have inspired, empowered and mobilised young people to take positive action on climate change. It seems to me that the worldwide governmental targets to reduce carbon emissions significantly by 2050 is a ridiculous cop-out. If we contrast these plans with, for example, the government’s plans for Heathrow’s 3rd runway, or the new coal power plant at Kingsnorth, it all feels a bit like a 40-a-day smoker telling his wife [...]
