EVENT: Beyond the Brink Preview
August 29th, 2010Understanding climate change
August 11th, 2010Four weeks ago I took part in the CSET Summer Law School. It was an immense privilege. Chosen out of one thousand applicants, I was given a unique insight into the legal profession and given an opportunity that I am profoundly grateful for. Yet on the last night, I was shocked by something totally unexpected…
Just three days left!!!
August 3rd, 2010We’re on the hunt for a group of young people from across the UK to go to the UN in Cancun, Mexico from 29th November – 10th December. Together they will form the Youth Delegation to Mexico from the UK and will have all the training and support to make sure we kick ass at the UN and theres just three days left to apply…
A global leader or a global inconvenience?
June 26th, 2010The post-mortem of the Copenhagen climate negotiations proved to be an interesting analysis. One of the most interesting articles contained in the Guardian concerned China, and whether they were striving to meet the requirements demanded by the science or simply being a global inconvenience and repeatedly blocking the negotiations. So on which side should the penny finally drop?
Witnessing the effects of climate change
June 26th, 2010Today, I was fortunate to witness the effects of climate change in person, as well as hearing from some amazing young people who are taking action to do something about it.
The Plan
June 11th, 2010Over the past year, the UK Youth Climate Coalition has achieved something great. We have established ourselves as the leading youth organisation on climate change and in the process we have inspired, empowered and mobilised young people to take positive action on climate change. In 2010, our plan is to be just as ambitious…
Welcome to the new UKYCC.org!
April 21st, 2010Dear friends and supporters Massive thanks for bearing with us over the past month whilst we’ve been spring-cleaning the UKYCC and bringing it up to date. It took a little longer than expected, but I hope you’ll agree it’s worth the wait! Although you may not notice all the changes at once, the you should [...]
One megaphone. One message. Our movement.
December 8th, 2009Heading into the World-changing moment that is the UN talks in Copenahgen, there are plenty of reasons to be hopeful.
Tomorrow Is 350 Day
October 23rd, 2009When Emma and I returned from the Arctic eighteen months ago, we knew that by working together with young people from across the world, we could make a difference. Little did we know that seven college students from Middlebury, Vermont in America were already planning something along these very lines. I remember first getting in [...]
Power Shift: The Future Starts Here
October 15th, 2009And so it does. What a wonderful four days we just had together – I’m still on some Power Shift high and have also needed a couple of days to recover from the intense *machine* we created in the last few weeks. Thank you so much all you wonderful people – the hitch-hikers from Edinburgh, [...]
'I'm going to stop smoking by 2050'
August 19th, 2009It seems to me that the worldwide governmental targets to reduce carbon emissions significantly by 2050 is a ridiculous cop-out. If we contrast these plans with, for example, the government’s plans for Heathrow’s 3rd runway, or the new coal power plant at Kingsnorth, it all feels a bit like a 40-a-day smoker telling his wife [...]
'Have the right path we chosen?'
August 19th, 2009So by filling the air full of CO2
In fact it’s hurting both me and you
And as the waters they fill with poison
Yoda might say
‘Have the right path we chosen?’
