As reported today, the UK’s only plant for producing wind turbines is set to close due to, it says, the lack of certainty over wind power here in the UK:

This is only a week after the government promised to create thousands of green jobs and to make the UK a world leader in the kind of clean, modern technologies which can get us out of the recession and combat climate change.
Will you take 5 minutes to email your MP?
- Go to http://www.writetothem.com/ and type in your home or uni postcode (either one, or both!)
- Tell your MP:
- That you think the closure of the plant is a backwards step
- That the government needs to get serious about creating green jobs and investing in modern energy.
- That green industries could bring hundreds of new jobs to your area.
- Ask them to support the Isle of Wight MP, Andrew Smith, in keeping the plant open, in holding the government to account on its green jobs promises and to work to bring cutting-edge, green technologies to your own area.
This isn’t just another dumb Facebook petition- it can make a real impact- MPs don’t tend to listen so much to mass-petitions and online campaigns so much as individual, personal letters and emails.
So send ‘em an email, and let them know we’re watching!

I wrote to Ladywood MP Clare Short. She, at least, has a strong record of voting to stop climate change so hopefully this will not fall on deaf ears.
Hey Fiona- heard back from mine, Peter Viggers,as our constituency is one of the closest to the Isle of Wight- he got back to me yesterday with this reply:
Dear Mr. West
Thank you for your email about Vestas. I am sorry to hear the problems and will have a word with Andrew Turner about it.
Yours sincerely
Peter Viggers
It’s a response at least, although I think in his case, there’s a long way to go before he shows any kind of real enthusiasm for clean technologies! Let me know how yours goes
